Steve
was born June 13, 1969 in Richmond, Indiana and was raised on a farm
north of Fountain City, Indiana. He
attended Culver Military Academy his junior year of high school,
traveled to the Soviet Union in 1986, and earned the rank of Eagle Scout
in 1987. After graduating
from Northeastern High School (Fountain City) in 1987, he attended Miami
University in Oxford, Ohio. While
at Miami, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Public
Administration with a minor in Spanish.
He also completed coursework at Universidad de las Americas in
Cholula, Puebla, Mexico and at Earlham College and Indiana University
East, both in Richmond, Indiana. After
graduating from Miami, he attended Indiana University School of Law and
Indiana University Graduate School of Business in Bloomington, Indiana. He graduated in May 1995 with a law degree and an MBA, and
moved to Richmond, Indiana in August 1995, where he was employed as the
Bank One Trust Officer for East Central Indiana.
In July, 1996, Steve left Bank One to become Assistant City
Attorney for the City of Richmond, Indiana, a position he held until
2002, when he left to pursue other business interests, including
managing the growth of his private law practice he had operated since
1995. Mr.
Rabe serves as adjunct faculty at both Indiana University East and Ivy
Tech State College, teaching courses in business, paralegal studies, and
law. Steve is very active
in the Wayne County community, participating in many community
activities and organizations and having served on several boards of
community organizations including Main Street Richmond-Wayne County,
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Richmond, Inc., Amigos, Whitewater
Community Television (WCTV) and the Richmond City
Employees Federal Credit Union. Mr. Rabe is the owner or co-owner of several small businesses including Rabe Residential Properties, LLC, Residential Renovation, Inc., Rabe Commercial Properties, LLC, and Richmond Executive Transportation, LLC. He is active in local politics, serving on the Wayne Township Board from 2000-2003, on the Richmond City Council in 2003, as a Republican precinct committeeman since 1996, as the Wayne County Republican Party Treasurer in 1996, as the Wayne County Republican vice-Chairman from 1997 – 2001, and as the Chairman of the Wayne County Republican Committee from 2001 to 2005.
